Freedom Park Middle School Gets New Computers for Classroom

Taco Bell supports military families by donating $36,500 in technology to school at Fort Gordon

AUGUSTA, GA. – Freedom Park Middle School students will begin using 26 new laptop computers on January 26, 2012 at a dedication ceremony hosted at the school on Fort Gordon.

Donated by Taco Bell on behalf of the Armed Forces Families Foundation, each of the computers has Microsoft Office Pro 2010 and antivirus software. Instructors will move the computers between classrooms with a cart that also was donated by Taco Bell and the Armed Forces Families Foundation.

“Students can use these computers to research assignments and retrieve needed information more quickly and efficiently,” said Dr. Frank Roberson, Superintendent of the Richmond County School System.

Leaders from the school system, Freedom Park, Fort Gordon, Taco Bell and the Armed Forces Families Foundation will present the computers to students at a 10 a.m. ceremony. Students from middle school will use the computers first. The students will first be introduced to the technology and how they will be able to use it during lessons taught by the teacher throughout the year.

The contribution of $36,500 in laptops and related equipment was funded through donations made by diners at restaurants in Augusta and other Southeastern cities, as part of Taco Bell’s Let Freedom Bells Ring campaign on behalf of the Armed Forces Families Foundation, a nonprofit organization that gives 100 percent of donations to projects benefiting service members and their families.

“We thank our diners and the Armed Forces Families Foundation for caring for those who care for our freedom,” said Thaddeus Foster, a member of the board at AFFF.

Taco Bell’s Let Freedom Bells Ring campaign has raised more than $300,000 in two years, with support from diners across the Southeast. Ten Taco Bell locations in Augusta helped raise funds for the Freedom Park project, excluding the restaurant on Fort Gordon, which did not.
