$7K AFFF donation brings new outdoor recreational area to USO Fort Stewart

The Armed Forces Families Foundation is scheduled to provide nearly $7,000 in equipment and supplies for the creation of a new outdoor recreational area at the USO Fort Stewart and Hunter Army Airfield Center in Savannah, Georgia. 

The new outdoor space will have the capacity to host weekly scheduled events at the USO Center, as well as often-requested special events, like family kickball and flag football tournaments. The area is expected to feature various pavilions, volleyball courts, corn hole boards, horseshoes and BBQ pits. These additions will allow the center to not only host many types of events but also enable the center to provide food and beverages for visiting service members and their families.

Donated items with AFFF funds include two sets of corn hole boards, as well as other yard games, outdoor signage and decorations, fiberglass tables, 100 lb. commercial sized ice maker, GE washer and dryer, picnic tables, Xbox consoles, a karaoke machine and more. 

The USO Fort Stewart supports 70,000 active and reserve service members and approximately 30,000 dependents. Since opening in February 2018, the center has seen an initial average of 2,000 visitors per month and continues to see increased demand year-after-year. By creating the new outdoor recreational area, the USO Center will be able to further their mission of providing a safe space with activities that enrich the lives of military members and their families.
